Before the Indian Premier League’s 2025 season, there were rumours that MS Dhoni would be leaving. Dhoni might not choose to lose a crucial player over him, which led to suspicion that the current four players would continue to be retained. However, with an additional uncapped player spot, the BCCI changed the retention number to six in its amended rules.
Fans’ excitement has been stoked by the former captain of the Chennai Super Kings’ prospects of continuing after the uncapped player berth was added. It is noteworthy that Dhoni is a suitable candidate for uncapped retention because he hasn’t participated in an international match since 2019. The veteran’s “value is undeniable,” according to former Indian cricket player Ajay Jadeja, who echoed the idea.
“Definitely MS Dhoni. Considering that he is currently an uncapped player, there is no question about that. He doesn’t want to be seen as the team’s best player because he has contributed so much to the group. His worth is indisputable. You’ll aim to keep the captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, as well; he’s had a strong season. These three are ideal for them, in my opinion, since Ravindra Jadeja can’t be left out either,” Jadeja stated on Jio Cinema.
I do not believe CSK keeps five players: Ajay Jadeja
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dhoni, and Ravindra Jadeja are the top three retainers, therefore CSK may opt for them given the ongoing retention discussions. With people in the queue like Deepak Chahar, Matheesha Pathirana, and Shivam Dube, the headache only becomes worse. The five-time champions, according to Jadeja, could use Chahar’s Right to Match card because his fitness is unknown.
“It’s unlikely that they (CSK) will keep five players. They may aim for 3–4. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja are two players that I believe are worth 18 crore. You must pay that amount if you wish to keep them. They also have Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, and MS Dhoni. Depending on Deepak Chahar’s condition, I believe they will keep Dube and use the RTM card for him.

Since these players are quite expensive, the RTM card might be helpful in obtaining players at a lower cost. He continued, “Dube might bring well around 10 or 11 crore if he is sold at auction.
