The Indian team, who defeated South Africa by seven runs on Saturday in Barbados to win the 2024 T20 World Cup, was congratulated by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the winning team.

Under Dhoni’s leadership, India won the 2007 T20 World Cup after defeating fierce rival Pakistan in the championship match. Along with the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, which they won while he was captain, India also won the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, the last ICC title the Men in Blue had won before Saturday.

After scoring 176 for seven in 20 overs, led by 59-ball 76 from Virat Kohli and 31-ball 47 from Axar Patel, India successfully defended the moderate score thanks to Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh’s superb slog-overs bowling.
