Morne Morkel, a former South African pacer, joined the team for the first time after being named the Indian team’s bowling coach. India will play Bangladesh in the first Test match of the two at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, six days after he joined the team.
During a recent conversation, Morkel shared his favourite Indian cuisine. The 39-year-old, who works as support staff, also stressed the value of maintaining a balanced diet.
“I enjoy some poori. I definitely adore doses and murgh malai chicken during breakfast. In a video that the Board of Control for Cricket in India uploaded on their social media accounts, Morkel stated, “It is also important as a coach to show that you eat healthy, and the rest of the players will follow.”

In the same video, Morkel also described what happened after he was informed that he would be taking over as bowling coach for the Indian team.
“I thought about it for five minutes while sitting in the room. I didn’t go to my wife after talking to my dad first. They usually tell you to go talk to your wife, but I went to talk to my dad. As a long-time cricket enthusiast, learning what would happen next was quite amazing. I spent approximately five to seven minutes enjoying it by myself before sharing it with my family,” Morkel continued.
