A player from the same nation rarely receives as much attention as Sandeep Lamichhane, an up-and-coming prospect from Nepal who did so on the world scene. But while the cricket player was exploring the game more, he was enmeshed in a number of scandals and was accused of raping a young woman. He was convicted guilty and given an eight-year prison sentence; however, in May 2024, he was judged not guilty and was taken into police custody.
Nepal‘s coach Monty Desai shared his thoughts on Lamichhane’s media trial during the incident. Additionally, he mentioned that the squad suffered as a result of his absence from the 2024 T20 World Cup.
“People [humans] are also discussed when we discuss cricket. I am therefore aware of the kinds of experiences these players have when I get a closer look at them. I’m not meant to judge whether what occurred was right or bad. Even last year, when we brought him in [to the team], everything was done legally. It was correctly and lawfully done. In light of that, it was a little upsetting for us to lose him again later on, have the decision go in his favour, and then have to wait for so long,” Desai remarked.
“To be honest, we were really looking forward to having him for our World Cup campaign, which never materialised. Many people want to be the first to know about our breaking news. People are unaware that you are speaking from a place of frustration. which is, once more, fans as well as media, correct? It’s not good, then. It’s bad since it contains… Emotions have a function. The query is, “For what purpose?” he continued.
Monty Desai has extensive experience as a coach.
Desai has had the busiest schedule of any Indian coach and a fantastic coaching resume. He held head coaching posts with Canada and, as of right now, Nepal. In addition, he has coached batting teams in Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates. He was employed by the West Indies from 2019 to 2022 as their batting coach. He worked as a talent scout and performance coach for the Gujarat Lions and Rajasthan Royals throughout his IPL tenure.
