The Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Pakistan, Mohsin Naqvi, has made news recently because he is expected to be named the next chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). According to reports from Geo News, the formal announcement will take place following approval from Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and PCB Patron-in-Chief.
Mohsin Naqvi will take over for Zaka Ashraf, the outgoing chair of the PCB’s management committee, following his nomination.
Remarkably, Ashraf left his job not too long ago because of continuous arguments inside the management committee. In the event that Naqvi is appointed, he has stated that his top priority will be resolving issues related to the cricket board’s management end.
“I’ll work to resolve the problems hurting cricket in Pakistan. Cricket reforms are desperately needed, according to Naqvi, who was cited by Geo.
Pakistan aims to recover from the series defeat to New Zealand.
Speaking of recent performances, Pakistan played a five-game Twenty20 International series against New Zealand. The team dreadfully lost both the series and the first four games. On Sunday, January 21, the team rallied to win the fifth Twenty20 International at Hagley Oval. The Men in Green won by a mere 42 runs, and it was really a win for consolation.
Beginning batsman Haseebullah Khan was out for a duck, then Mohammad Rizwan steadied the batting with a score of 38 runs in 38 deliveries before Fakhar Zaman chipped in with another 33. Star hitter Babar Azam contributed just 13 runs off 24 deliveries, which was a lackluster performance as well. In addition, Pakistan scored 134/8 thanks to useful runs contributed towards the end of the innings by Sahibzada Farhan (19) and Abbas Afridi (15).
Tim Southee, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, and Ish Sodhi each claimed two wickets for New Zealand. In an attempt to chase the target, Pakistan’s bowling attack performed a fantastic job of defending it. Taking just 92 runs to win the fifth Twenty20 International, the visitors triumphed. The team captained by Shaheen Afridi will be hoping for a better showing in their next games after dropping the series 4-1.
