One of the pillars of India’s bowling lineup in the June 2024 T20 World Cup was Mohammed Siraj. The Men in Blue’s 11-year quest for an ICC title came to an end thanks to the standout bowler. Following his valiant actions, Telengana recognized his role in the historic victory and named him Telangana’s Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), reporting to the state’s Director General of Police (DGP).
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) speedster reported to Telangana’s DGP Jitender on Friday, October 11, and conveyed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for the tribute made to him.
Mohammed Faheemuddin Qureshi, the Chairman and President of the Telangana Minority Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGMREIS), and MP M. Anil Kumar Yadav accompanied Siraj.
When Siraj visited Reddy in July following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup, the latter had insisted on receiving a residential plot and a government position. The 54-year-old praised Siraj’s efforts at the major event, saying he brought honors to Telangana in international cricket and laurels to the nation.
The chief minister recently addressed the state Assembly, highlighting Siraj’s accomplishments and his role in the country’s T20 World Cup victory. He also said that the international player’s Group-I assignment will grant him direct access to senior positions like Deputy Superintendent of Police should he decide to eventually join the police force. While acknowledging that Siraj lacked the educational qualifications for the Group-I position, he said the Cabinet had granted him the exemption as part of its efforts to support athletes.
A degree is the prerequisite education for a Group-I position. Siraj passed his intermediate (12th class) exam, however we have granted him an exemption so that we may offer him a Group I job, according to an Odisha TV quote.
When Mohammed Siraj was given a housing site by the state government
A few months back, in August, Siraj was given a 600 square yard house plot in Hyderabad’s affluent Jubilee Hills neighborhood by the state government. The 30-year-old was given free land at Road No. 78 in Jubilee Hills by an order from the state government.
The state Cabinet had already decided to give fast bowler Siraj, shooter Esha Singh, and two-time world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen 600 square yards apiece of house sites in Hyderabad. Additionally, the state administration agreed to give Nikhat Zareen and Siraj Group-1 positions. In September, Nikhat was appointed as a DSP in the Telangana Police.
In 2017, Siraj played his first international match against New Zealand. For the Men in Blue, he has participated in 29 Tests, 44 ODIs, and 16 T20Is. Siraj has taken wickets in all three formats, taking 78, 71, and 14 wickets in total. Along with Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, he forms a venerable troika that has helped India overcome numerous difficult opponents under trying circumstances.
