On Sunday, September 17, at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, India easily defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the Asia Cup 2023 championship match to win their eighth continental championship. Mohammed Siraj, a seamer, stole the show with his best ODI numbers of 6/21 in seven overs, earning himself the title of Player of the Match.
Mohammed Siraj was appropriately at the centre of the team’s celebration after the Men in Blue were presented with the trophy because he was essential to India’s convincing victory.
The Hyderabad-born player, however, presented the trophy to a different individual on his left, who appeared to be a member of the staff.
The identity of the man in question has been the subject of numerous rumours. The individual in question is India’s throwdown expert Raghu Raghavendra, whose main responsibility is to provide Indian batters with throwdowns with the aid of a slinger. Raghu is noteworthy since he was India’s first throw-down expert and because he trained legends like Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni in this skill.
In addition to him, the club has two other throwdown experts who may assist them in the nets. The photo of Raghavendra grinning with glee as he lifted the Asia Cup trophy has gone popular on social media.
India records their largest victory in terms of balls still in play.
Mohammed Siraj claimed the joint-fastest five-wicket haul in ODIs in just 16 balls, making him Sri Lanka’s top destroyer. The most wickets ever taken by an Indian bowler came in his second over when four were taken. Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, two young Indian batsmen, were brought in to bat in response. The pair chased down the mark in 6.1 overs, giving India their largest victory in terms of balls remaining (263).
India won their eighth Asia Cup championship as a result, continuing their dominance in the tournament. They’ve won the most titles in Asia Cup history, ahead of Pakistan (2 titles), Sri Lanka (6 titles), and other teams. Awarded Player of the Series, Kuldeep Yadav took nine wickets during the competition.
