The veteran Indian pacer’s early wicket-taking made things simpler for the other Gujarat bowlers, according to Rashid Khan, who has been a key member of the team since its founding in 2022. The Purple Cap winner from the previous season, Mohammed Shami, is rehabilitating after having surgery in February for a heel problem, and both fans and analysts feel that the former champions are missing him.
The Indian Premier League (IPL2024) season has started tumultuously for the Gujarat Titans. The previous champions are positioned sixth on the points table after three wins and an equal number of losses.
“Shami played a main role for us in the last two seasons, both with the new ball and old ball, and the way he has delivered for the team actually made mine and others job easier, especially in the middle overs,” Rashid was said to have stated by India Today.
Shami took 48 wickets from 33 games during his two seasons with the Titans. After Rashid, he has taken the second-most wickets for the team. The seasoned seamer wrapped up the 2023 ODI World Cup as the top wicket-taker last year. Shami has not played since the championship match against Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced ahead of time that the Bengal speedster would not be able to participate in the highly anticipated franchise competition.
Results don’t always go your way: Rashid Khan
Since their debut season, the Gujarat Titans (GT) have been a fairly reliable squad. However, given that their IPL 2024 campaign hasn’t exactly gone as planned, speculation about possible causes is growing. As an experienced player in Twenty20, Rashid pointed out that outcomes don’t always favor one team.
“We are happy with our bowling unit and we have started the season with a positive mindset. Everyone is taking responsibility and delivering best for the team, but sometimes results don’t go your way,” the elite Afghan leg spin maestro said.

“Twenty-eighth is all about making the proper choices when they need to. “Azmat Omarzai, Spencer Johnson, Darshan Nalkande, Umesh Yadav, and most importantly, Mohit Sharma Bhai as well, have all delivered,” Khan said.
In their most recent encounter, the Titans handed the inaugural champions their first loss of the year, ending the Rajasthan Royals’ four-match winning streak. On Wednesday, April 17, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Shubman Gill and company would like to continue to build on their momentum as they take on the Delhi Capitals.
