On Tuesday, September 3, the cricket community wished Mohammed Shami, the star bowler for India, a very happy 34th birthday. Shami’s recuperation from ankle surgery has kept her out of action for a few months. From his debut in 2013, Shami has been a vital member of the Indian cricket team, known for his deadly pace and ability to swing the ball both ways.
In his thrilling ODI debut against Pakistan in New Delhi, Mohammed Shami bowled nine overs, gave up just 23 runs, took one wicket, and bowled four maidens.
Shami made his Test debut against the West Indies at Eden Gardens, his home venue, just ten months after making his ODI debut. He quickly established himself, taking nine wickets, including five in the second innings.
India’s success in all forms has been greatly attributed to Shami, who has developed into one of the best fast bowlers in the world over time. With outstanding performances in all three ODI World Cups (2015, 2019, and 2023), he has made a significant impact in ICC competitions.
At the Wankhede Stadium in the 2023 World Cup semi-final versus New Zealand, Shami gave one of his best performances.
By ripping through New Zealand’s batting order and taking seven wickets to secure India’s position in the championship, Shami helped the team defend a total of 397 runs. After participating in seven games, Shami finished with 24 wickets, becoming him the tournament’s highest wicket-taker. Another highlight was his hat-trick against Afghanistan during the World Cup 2019, where he single-handedly prevented India from losing.

After an 11-month break, the bowler is currently getting ready to play for the national team again. He has not been able to play since sustaining an injury following the ODI World Cup of last year.
