Moeen Ali, an England international, has been named by the Guyana Amazon Warriors as a substitute player for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 season. The defending champions will be joined by former England captain Moeen, who will take the place of the unavailable Pakistani batsman Saim Ayub.
The batting all-rounder’s availability is based on how far his team gets in the UK T20 Blast. Tim Robinson of New Zealand has been chosen to fill in for Moeen in the interim.
After the competition’s Barbados leg, Afghanistan’s star player Gurbaz will depart the team to serve overseas. Until Gurbaz returns for the tournament’s Guyana leg, Robinson will assume his place in the starting lineup.
The Warriors will keep 22-year-old Robinson on staff to fill in for Rahmaullah Gurbaz in the interim till Moeen Ali arrives.
In the meantime, in match seven of the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) at Basseterre, the defending champion Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots by a comfortable margin of 40 runs, making it two wins in as many games.
Rainy circumstances may have made it seem risky to bat first, but Imran Tahir’s Warriors showed no such fear as they proceeded to record a respectable score of 266/7 off their twenty overs. Before play started, a rope was dragged around the soggy outfield, but the rainy weather did not slow down the Warrior’s run rate.

As they attempt to win back-to-back titles in the CPL this year, the Warriors appear to be a formidable team both at bat and with the ball. It remains to be seen if Guyana Amazon Warriors can maintain their winning momentum when they take on Saint Lucia Kings in Match 10 of the CPL 2024.
