Honourable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi praised the United States of America (USA) men’s cricket team for their impressive performance in the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Speaking at the Indian diaspora event at Nassau Coliseum in New York, Modi spoke about the growing popularity of cricket in America and the significant contribution of Indian-Americans to the sport’s development in the country.
Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his three-day official visit to the US, which includes bilateral discussions with US President Joe Biden and attendance at the crucial Quad meeting. He will also be present at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York for the “Summit of the Future.”
An important turning point for American cricket was reached during the T20 World Cup 2024, which was co-hosted by the United States and the West Indies from June 1 to June 29 of this year. Sixteen matches, including the highly anticipated encounter between India and Pakistan, were held in the United States at locations in New York, Texas, and Florida.

USA earned a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eight round
The USA squad had two victories, including an outstanding Super Over triumph over Pakistan, and finished second in their group. They did not win any of their Super Eight matches, but they did battle hard against South Africa, who finished as runners-up, losing by only 18 runs while needing to chase 195.

For the US team, a number of players with Indian ancestry excelled. Six wickets were taken, including those of Indian players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, according to Saurabh Netravalkar, who had played for India at the U19 level. Another former Indian U19 player, Harmeet Singh, made a bat and ball contribution. The pivotal half-century made by USA skipper Monank Patel against Pakistan was another high point of their campaign.
