Mitchell Starc has been the focal focus of all conversations ever since the Kolkata Knight Riders acquired him for INR 24.75 crore. The fact that he had a rough start to the competition just increased the pressure on him, but the pacer seemed unaffected by the criticism. Conversely, Pat Cummins, who was earning significantly more than top Indian talents, was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.50 crore, which also received criticism.
Speaking candidly, Starc said they laughed at the salary and the criticism as they continued to play the final. Starc showed himself to be a major match player, leading KKR to victory in both the first qualifier and the championship game, while Cummins set the example by leading Hyderabad to their first summit showdown in six years. Talking about the same thing, Starc teasingly mentioned how they proceeded from having two expensive players participate in the championship.
Laughed. We played Hyderabad in the opening IPL match. So, after playing the first game and getting paid fairly well, Paddy and I laughed a little bit about it. As fate would have it, we play each other in the championship nine weeks later. And it’s gone from, “Oh, they paid overs for these two,” all of a sudden. Now, these two are competing in a final. It’s funny, Starc remarked on the Willow Talk Cricket podcast.
🎙️What was the feeling of winning the IPL after such financial scrutiny?
Mitchell Starc : “Did Laugh. Pat & I got paid a fair bit. We played the first game & nine weeks later we play again in finals. Suddenly it goes from 2 overpaid guys to these 2 are playing the final😉.” pic.twitter.com/xfNQ1O25Pv

IPL Final presentation didn’t start until midnight & basically killed the vibe: Mitchell Starc
Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets on the night of the final. The game ended early which was not expected and it delayed the post-match presentation. Speaking about the same, Starc stated that the delay killed the vibe and he hilariously added how Angkrish Raghuvanshi joked about his IPL salary being more than the cash prize.

“So game finished at 10pm presentation hasn’t even started by midnight. So we’re like, killed the vibe already sitting down and young young Anki who’s our number three, he’s like they see the winner’s cheques come over team get 20 crore for winning the final he goes it’s not even what you got paid,” Starc said.
