Australian captain Mitchell Marsh spoke up following the game to discuss his team’s performance. In the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2024, Afghanistan triumphed magnificently over Australia. On Sunday, June 23, both teams squared off in the tournament’s 48th game at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St. Vincent.
Afghanistan, batting first, scored 148 runs in the first innings thanks to outstanding efforts from Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Furthermore, the stint of Gulbadin Naib had the Australians rattled as they stood up to defend the total.
With Naib taking four wickets and Naveen-ul-Haq taking three, Afghanistan defeated Australia by 21 runs, restricting them to 127 runs in total.
Australian captain Mitchell Marsh spoke up following the game to discuss his team’s performance.
They most likely received 20 too many. This tournament has seen a lot of teams bowl first. Don’t believe that the toss determined the winner. It was a bad night for us on the pitch. Although it wasn’t an easy wicket, both teams managed to score on it. Like I stated, today we were outplayed. “We simply have to triumph, and there’s no superior team to do it against,” Marsh remarked during the post-game ceremony.
Fantastic time for me, my country, and my people: Gulbadin Naib
Gulbadin Naib, the game’s standout, took home the Player of the Match trophy for his pivotal moment against Australia. Naib bowled four overs, giving up 20 runs while claiming four outstanding wickets to secure a historic victory for his team. According to him, Afghanistan’s victory was solely attributable to their diligent efforts.
“We had to wait a very long time. Fantastic time for me, my country, and my people. Significant accomplishment for our cricket team. We appreciate your support of our cricket adventure, fans. We put in a lot of effort over the past two months, and the outcome is here,” Naib stated.

“This is an incredible accomplishment for Afghanistan cricket; we don’t have a lot of history, so this is really noteworthy. We won the group stage this year, and we played fantastic cricket in the last World Cup. We are now off on our journey. I’m really blessed to have this staff, and we have excellent management,” he continued.
