Misbah-ul-Haq, a former captain and coach for the Pakistan cricket team, believes that some officials in the Pakistan Cricket Board are attempting to undermine the status of Babar Azam, the current captain, and that this will have a negative effect on the dressing room of the squad.
“My entire life revolves on cricket, and I often consume media related to the sport by way of watching matches and reading articles. And based on what I’ve observed, Babar Azam’s standing inside the team appears to be deteriorating “Tuesday in Lahore, Misbah was speaking to the media about the situation.
Misbah, who was instructed to retire as head coach in September 2021 by former chairman Ramiz Raja, despite the fact that he had a three-year contract with the board, said that one can clearly observe this by watching the press conferences of Babar. Misbah was the one who was told to resign.
“Take a look at some of the questions that are being asked to him. What do they indicate? They show that he is being undermined as a captain, and I am afraid that that will have severe implications on the team’s dressing room.”
Misbah, who during the 2019-2020 season held the all-powerful positions of head coach and chief selector, stated that if the cricket board had issues with Babar’s captaincy, then they should sit down with him and the selectors and discuss it across the table. Misbah held both of these positions during the 2019-2020 season.
“If you put pressure on someone to the extent that this, it would eventually cause disturbances inside the team, which is not beneficial for Pakistan cricket.
Misbah, Pakistan’s most successful Test captain, believes that frequent changes have weakened and disrupted the Test squad, and that this has been reflected in the team’s performance in recent matches against England and New Zealand.
“The formation of test teams requires a significant investment of time and labour, and frequent personnel shifts are counterproductive. We had a strong showing on the testing side, but the adjustments threw everything off “he stated.
Misbah said that in the event that the PCB desired to make changes, they should have an open conversation with Babar in order to avoid any future conflict.
“There is no question that Pakistan have an extremely talented white ball squad, and as a result, the team poses no threat whatsoever in those formats of the game. Personally, I would stand by Babar till the very end,” he continued.
