Mickey Arthur, the Head of Cricket at the Derbyshire Cricket Club and also the Director of the Pakistan cricket team, was extremely impressed with Zaman Khan‘s bowling, who took two wickets despite Derbyshire’s loss to Lancashire Lightning in the initial game of the ongoing T20 blast. Notably, Derbyshire recruited the cricketer on Arthur’s advice to enhance their pace department for the tournament.
The 21-year-old joined the Derbyshire squad on May 18 and had only one practice session prior to making his Falcons debut. In the first two overs of the match against the Lancashire Lightnings, the pacer conceded a large number of runs, but he made a remarkable recovery in the final overs. Mickey Arthur stated, in reference to Zaman’s performance, that he possesses the qualities necessary for the team to win the competition.
“He will just get better and better. He possesses the necessary abilities. The International News quoted Mickey Arthur as saying, “He bowls an incredibly good fast yorker; he also delivers a good bouncer and a very good slower ball, and these are the skills we need.”
“The crucial factor is that he meets our needs. We required a bowler capable of bowling two overs during the power play and two overs at depth. Something we thought we had lost when we looked at our roster, but he can do it and does it exceptionally well.
We have some difficulty with his English, but we are privileged to have him,” Mickey Arthur continued.
His dominance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and his ability to bowl in the death overs earned him a spot on the national team earlier in the year. In March of this year, he made his debut for Pakistan during a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.
This is his first time playing in England and under these conditions, he will continue to improve. We just need to give him one more week, and he’ll be ready to go on Friday night,” Arthur added.
