Fast-bowler Spencer Johnson, an Australian, responded to being acquired by the Gujarat Titans (GT) for an incredible INR 10 crore on December 19 at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in Dubai.
Although Spencer Johnson always believed in his abilities, he wasn’t sure if his body could handle the demands of fast bowling. He said he always had faith in his abilities, even if he did not anticipate anything like this.
“I never saw myself in this predicament… Nothing was in store for me. It was just a matter of whether I could correct myself, even though I thought I had the potential. “I’ve always had that inner belief, but it was more about whether my body would allow me to perform at the best level,” Fox Cricket cited Johnson as saying.
Spencer Johnson further acknowledged that, as the proceedings went on, he began to lose hope. Johnson had joined the auction with a base price of INR 50 lakh. “My chances decreased as the duration increased,” he continued.
After that, the 28-year-old left-arm quick spoke about how happy he was to be able to play for the Titans in the next IPL season. He now joins Afghan spin specialist Rashid Khan, Indian talents Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami, fellow Australian Matthew Wade, and New Zealand white-ball captain Kane Williamson.
“My entire family is here for this occasion. Since they have been there the entire time, it is truly unique for them to experience it as well. Being a part of Gujarat excites me a lot. Already, they have participated in two IPL finals. He went on, “They have an incredible list and an incredible support staff.”
