On Wednesday at the Youth and Sports Ministry, President Nazmul Hassan Papon of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has convened an urgent meeting of the board of directors. This has sparked rumours regarding possible leadership changes inside Bangladesh’s cricket governing body.
Bangladesh’s political unrest has impacted many industries, including sports administration, as a result of the recent government transition. Papon is anticipated to participate virtually in the meeting from outside, having left the country following the overthrow of the Awami League government. Directors will participate remotely and in person in the meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM. Iftikhar Ahmed Mithu, BCB director and chairman of the umpires committee, confirmed the venue of the meeting but would not comment on the agenda.
“The meeting is scheduled to start at 11:00 AM. Both physically and online, the directors will be present at the meeting. The president himself summoned the meeting,” The Daily Star cited Mithu as saying.

It was also widely rumoured that Nazmul Hassan will tender his resignation at this meeting. Should this be confirmed, it would allow a director selected by the National Sports Council (NSC) to assume the position. According to reports, Faruque Ahmed, a former captain of the national team, is the front-runner for the job.
“My daughter had surgery today, therefore I’m in Bangkok right now. Regarding the meeting, I got a text. “I am uncertain about the subjects that will be discussed during the meeting,” he continued.
Director Jalal Yunus, who was nominated to the NSC, resigned on Monday. Despite the NSC’s request, Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby, another director nominee, has not resigned. The BCB offices was recently visited by Asif Mahmud, the advisor for youth and sports.

Furthermore, Mahmud had already made a suggestion that if Papon kept refusing to carry out his formal responsibilities, he might name a temporary president. It is possible that this meeting may clarify this proposition.
