Glenn Maxwell, an Australian all-rounder, recently discussed the players that could alter the course of the eagerly awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy. According to Maxwell, the attention will be on Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, the spin tandem from India.
Maxwell emphasized that in previous India-Australia matches, Ashwin and Jadeja had been crucial players. With 50 five-wicket hauls and a combined total of 821 wickets in 330 innings, their performance has greatly aided India’s dominance in the red-ball format.
“I think that over a long period, having played against guys like Ashwin and Jadeja, those two seem to have always been the ones we’ve faced consistently and the battles we’ve had with them have often dictated the outcome of the game,” Maxwell remarked on Star Sports.
India has won their last two tours in Australia in 2018–19 and 2020–21, demonstrating their recent success there. The performance of the spin pair could be crucial in securing another series.
“We’ll usually find ourselves in a better situation if we play well against Ashwin and Jadeja than when they’ve had a field day and run right through us. Given their similar ages, those two people have been around for the whole of my career,” he continued.

In all three forms combined, Jasprit Bumrah is perhaps the best bowler: Glenn Maxwell
The Melbourne native also showered India’s speedster Jasprit Bumrah with accolades. Speaking of Bumrah’s early IPL days, Maxwell praised the pacer’s development.
“And perhaps Jasprit Bumrah, who was born more recently. I was in Mumbai during his inaugural IPL season in 2013 and I think I faced him in the nets almost every day.

It’s quite an incredible tale to watch him grow from a young, undiscovered talent to what he is today—possibly the finest bowler in all three formats—Maxwell said.
