On a three-year contract, Matthew Mott became an assistant coach with the Sydney Sixers of the Big Bash League (BBL). Following his departure as England Men’s white-ball head coach, Mott was appointed, with red-ball coach Brendon McCullum taking over for the limited-overs role.
During his tenure, England won the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. But he left because of some recent setbacks, like losing in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup this year and performing poorly in the ODI World Cup in 2023.
Matthew Mott had eight years of outstanding success as the Australian Women’s team’s coach prior to his time in England.
It gives me great pleasure to rejoin the Sydney Sixers. I’m excited to return to Sydney, where I began my coaching career many years ago. The city brings back pleasant memories as well as a reassuring sense of familiarity. I truly respect Greg Shipperd, so the notion of working with him as an assistant really appealed to me,” he stated, as reported by.
We are overjoyed that Motty has committed: Rachael Haynes
Returning to the New South Wales system also means a reunion for Mott with general manager of the Sixers Rachael Haynes, a former standout player for the Australian team he coached. Haynes cited Mott’s stellar performance history as well as his capacity to create and maintain a winning culture.
“That Motty has committed to the club for the next three years makes us very happy. It’s obvious when the chance to add a coach of Motty’s calibre to your staff presents itself. Haynes remarked, “We are aware of the tremendous asset he will be to our playing group.
