On Monday, June 3, at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, Namibia and Oman will square off in the third match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
Earlier this year, at Al Amerat, the two clubs faced off in a five-game series. The visitors overcame a 1-2 deficit to win the series 3-2. Prior to the main event, Namibia participated in three warm-up matches. They defeated Uganda rather easily in the opening match before Australia completely destroyed them. Namibia narrowly prevailed by three runs over Papua New Guinea in their final warm-up match.
With 160 runs from five games at an average of 32 and a strike rate of 125.98, JP Kotze emerged as the top run scorer during Namibia’s tour to Oman. David Wiese, an accomplished all-round player, will be heavily relied upon in the meantime. It is well known that he has the potential to strike out in the last overs and the skill of taking vital wickets. In the meantime, Gerhard Erasmus, the captain, led Namibia to victory against Oman in terms of wickets taken. At an impressive average of 8.25, he claimed eight wickets in five games. The all-round batsman would love to perform his magic on Monday morning (Indian time) once more.
In the meantime, Oman defeated Papua New Guinea by three wickets in their first warm-up match, and their second match against Afghanistan ended in a loss after the latter made 154/3 in the opening session.
Ten teams participated in the ACC Men’s T20I Premier Cup 2024, which Oman hosted following the team’s loss to Namibia. They advanced to the championship round before falling to UAE. After compiling 175 runs in five matches and hitting two half-centuries, current skipper Aqib Ilyas emerged as Oman’s top run scorer. But with the ball, he was even more effective, taking 12 wickets at 9.33. Without a doubt, the guy to keep an eye on in this matchup is Ilyas. Bilal Khan, a seasoned left-arm pacer, will be highly important during his period with the new ball.
