Following Bengal’s final Ranji Trophy league match of the season against Bihar, veteran batsman Manoj Tiwary declared his retirement from professional cricket.
After receiving recognition for his years of service from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), the 38-year-old expressed his disappointment at not being able to succeed in international cricket. After questioning MS Dhoni’s decision to remove him from the playing XI following his century against Sri Lanka, he now poked fun at Gautam Gambhir, pointing out his “immature” actions during their 2015 verbal altercation.
Recalling his violent on-field fight with Gautam Gambhir during a Delhi vs. Bengal Ranji Trophy match, Manoj Tiwary said the verbal altercation is still one of his greatest regrets in his career. Notably, Manoj Tiwary donned a headgear before he batted, but he soon realized that pacer Sumit Narwal was getting ready to bowl. The process was delayed as he called for a helmet right away. Gambhir, on the other hand, became enraged and there was an unpleasant altercation between the two players.
“The only thing I regret is the fight I had with Gambhir that day because people who know me will tell you that I’m not the kind of person who goes around picking fights with seniors.” I could have averted that particular memory. I get along well with my seniors, but one event ruined my reputation,” Tiwary said to Sports Now.
We were so close at one point, which is why I mentioned that it is my biggest regret. We used to debate and strategize a lot when we were playing for KKR over who to choose in Kolkata. We used to discuss specifics and inputs in our connection. However, things did not work out as they ought to have,” he continued.
In addition, the former cricket player said that Gambhir had made threats against them meeting outside the stadium and that it was “immature” of the former KKR captain to make such remarks.
Yes, that was incredibly immature of him to say that, he chuckles. Every word spoken within the underground journalist’s tent in Kotla is audible to all. However, given our physical characteristics, it’s impossible to say who might have crossed paths with whom. Tiwary continued.
