Mandhana is eager about the chance to compete for a medal at the CWG.

There is tangible enthusiasm among the Indian delegation as cricket returns to the Commonwealth Games for the first time in 24 years and features the first-ever women’s tournament in the multi-sport event. India’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana stated that as her team prepares to go for Birmingham, they are captivated by the novelty of competing for a medal.

“Really looking forward to competing at the Commonwealth Games. It’s definitely something fresh for me and our team, in my opinion. We haven’t ever participated in a tournament where other sports are being played. Therefore, I’m really anticipating that,” Mandhana added.

We haven’t participated in a Commonwealth Games competition where we would have aimed for the gold medal, as we had always dreamed.

Mandhana stated that although the idea of competing in a competition like the commonwealth will be novel, she and her teammates are aware of and have observed the feeling of winning a medal over the years. Mandhana even believed that having witnessed it happen previously would inspire her and her team to pursue victory in England.

“Neeraj Chopra winning it in the Olympics gave me goosebumps, so we absolutely have the chance to attend and attempt to do that. Not for the Olympics, of course, but for the Commonwealth. We are all quite enthusiastic, and yes, we are aware of the groupings (India, Australia, Pakistan, and Barbados); therefore, we have plans for each of the three, and we hope that they all turn out as expected “said Mandhana.
