At the recent IPL 2024 mini-auction on December 19, a dramatic turn of events saw the cricketing world witness the promising comeback of M Siddharth, a player who had been sidelined owing to an injury problem. Siddharth’s IPL career has seen a brief hiccup; he had previously played for the Delhi Capitals and the Kolkata Knight Riders. Nonetheless, he had remained in the public eye due to his unwavering confidence in his abilities, tireless work on Tamil Nadu’s circuits, and outstanding TNPL achievements.
As the 25-year-old waited to find out at the auction, nerves and excitement were mixed together. He was greatly relieved that the Lucknow Super Giants showed interest and that they started a bidding war that also attracted the Indian Challengers Bangalore. His fortunes took off when he struck a spectacular deal of Rs 2.4 crore with Lucknow, starting at a base price of Rs 20 lakh.
“I felt anxious. The night before, I felt uneasy. Finding your name on the auction list is a significant deal. I wanted to go to the IPL this time, so I was wondering after that if I would be selected or not. I wasn’t there the previous two years. This time, I had to make it, I told myself. Motivation comes from achieving accomplishments. I thought this was the ideal opportunity for me to move forward. M. Siddharth said IndiaToday.in, “I’m happy it happened.
M Siddharth hopes to become a maverick powerplay.
With little but powerful tweaks, Siddharth has painstakingly refined his repertory. The left-arm leg-spinner has come a long way since captain of Tamil Nadu Dinesh Karthik gave him the order to bowl during powerplays in 2019. He’s built a reputation over the last four years as a skilled hitter who can limit opponents both inside and outside of the powerplay.
“For the past two years, I have been working extremely hard. All I wanted to do was make a difference wherever I performed. I believed that TNPL would provide me with a fantastic opportunity to make that difference. I felt that something significant was about to happen as I bowled well during the powerplay,” he continued.
