At the Sydney Cricket Ground, former South African opener Lizelle Lee made history in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) by hitting an incredible 150* against the Perth Scorchers. The Hobart Hurricanes star led her team to a resounding 72-run victory in her innings, which also set a new record for the greatest individual score in WBBL history.
Lee was having trouble with the bat before the big innings; in five WBBL innings this season, she had only scored 71 runs, with a best of 38.
“I’ll refrain from saying that everything went my way since it didn’t, but it’s one of those days. Having the group’s and family’s support with a tiny setback like that was amazing,”
Lizelle Lee stated in the post-match interview following the game.
After early setbacks, when the Hurricanes were at 16/2 in the third over after losing two quick wickets to Chloe Ainsworth, the 32-year-old launched her attack. After the dismissals, Lee sewed two important alliances. With only 14 runs off 19 balls from Elyse Villani, she and Villani’s 114-run partnership ended the situation. After that, Lee and Heather Graham combined for an unbroken 73-run combination that helped the Hurricanes to a commanding 203-3.

The Hobart Hurricanes women’s team won by a score of 72 runs.
With a quick 51-ball century that featured 12 boundaries and 12 sixes, Lee’s innings accounted for 73% of her team’s total. Her 12 sixes broke the previous WBBL mark of 136 not out established by Grace Harris last season, setting a new global record. The highest score in a Full Member country and the fifth-highest score overall in women’s T20 cricket is Lee’s innings.
Even after being dropped on 63 at backward point, Lee didn’t slow down. She started her six-hitting rampage with consecutive maximums in the fourth over, specifically targeting bowler Ebony Hoskin. In the last over, she shattered the record by hitting back-to-back sixes off the same bowler.

Chloe Piparo ran out in the first over and Sophie Devine fell off the first ball, meaning the Scorchers’ chase never got going. Ultimately, they were bundled out for 131, giving the Hurricanes a resounding victory.
