... THE RUN CHASE ...
As many as 9 bowling options including himself were used by Livingstone but as a unit, they could not limit the damage in a fashion they would have liked. Only 16 runs were scored in the 3 overs before the 50th over and a good last over could have helped the tourists to take a bit of momentum into their batting effort but it wasn't to be. A ray of hope for England is that the last 6 games at this venue have been won by the chasing side but given the lack of experience in their batting unit, this is a pretty tall ask. A good Powerplay will set them up nicely for the rest of the chase. Back in a bit for the second half of the game.
Keacy Carty is down for a chat. He says it looks like a good total and the batting group did pretty well and they will now look to defend it. Adds that they played well despite losing a couple of quick wickets and he kept things simple and put the bad balls away. Appreciates the skipper for the way he led from the front and says Hope is a wonderful player and the whole world knows it.
Both reached well-earned fifties and their 143-run stand well and truly set a platform for a big total. Sherfane Rutherford capitalised on the groundwork laid by Hope and Carty and got off the blocks quickly. His 36-ball 54 and a quickfire cameo from Hetmyer kept the momentum going for the hosts. Dropped when he was on 60 by Salt, Hope made the most of that life as he went on to score his 17th ODI ton. After reaching the landmark, he shifted gears and after his departure, Forde did what was asked of him with his 11-ball 23 propelling West Indies past 325.
Matthew Forde has polished off the innings with his finishing touches! 19 runs off the last over allow West Indies to finish on a high and end up with 328 on the board. Earlier in the game, after being inserted into bat, the hosts were dealt early blows by John Turner. Having lost both openers inside the first four overs, Shai Hope and Keacy Carty dug the hosts out of trouble with a steady partnership. Hope was proactive from the outset, while Carty grew in confidence as he settled in.
