Right then! That is all we have from this slightly shortened game. The action in the Hundred continues at this venue as the men's teams have taken the field. London Spirt have won the toss and elected to bowl first against Southern Brave. Do switch tabs to catch our build-up as the first ball will be bowled at 11.15 pm IST (5.45 pm GMT). From here, goodbye and cheers!
Maia Bouchier is the Player of the Match. She says that it was good to chase the total and the key was to bat till the end. She says that the pitch was good and there was not much turn. Adds that they got off to a good start. Ends by saying that they are happy with the win.
The London Spirit Women's bowlers had a decent target to defend and need to keep the pressure on from the word go. They struck very early as Danielle Gibson drew first blood early and they bowled brilliantly to keep the pressure on the batters. It was all Sarah Glenn after that as she claimed three wickets for 15 runs in her four sets. Charlotte Dean chipped in with one as well towards the end but they were unable to hold their nerves towards the end. They would have defended the total if not for some brilliant display of batting under pressure by Maia Bouchier. In the first innings, the Braves bowled well to restrict the hosts to an achievable target. Heather Knight was the top scorer for London Spirit Women with 44 off 27 deliveries. Georgia Adams was the destructor-in-chief with her four-wicket haul.
London Spirit Women struck in the first set itself dismissing the in-form Smriti Mandhana very early. After that, Danni Wyatt also fell after scoring some quick runs while Maia Bouchier stood firm and played steady. Just as a partnership was building for the Braves, Georgia Adams succumbed to her struggle off the bowling of Sarah Glenn. Freya Kemp followed soon after getting out in the same set and Chloe Tryon could not contribute as well as she was sent back to the pavilion. Maia Bouchier batted brilliantly as she completed her half-century and tried to close the gap to the target with some help from Maitlan Brown. It was the former's unbeaten 63 off 42 balls that helped the Braves to reach the target and take home two points.
A convincing win for Southern Brave Women takes them to the top of the table with three wins in four games. London Spirit Women had their first two games washed out and with this loss, they now have just 2 points in three matches. This has been a good batting performance by the visitors to chase down a tricky target and achieved it with 3 balls to spare. London Spirit Women will be desperate to get their first win on the board and will want to get their plans in order as we go deeper into the tournament.
