So that is it from the second game of this year's CPL! The action though continues on the 19th as Jamaica Tallawahs take on St Lucia Zouks followed by Guyana taking on Patriots. Do join us for all the live action. The first game begins at 1000 local (1400 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
Riyad Emrit says they were in good positions a lot of times but let them get away with it. He feels they scored 20 runs more than they should have. They conceded a few extra runs towards the last overs and chasing 150 on a tricky wicket is not easy. Adds Allen was missed and probably the result would have been different if he was there. Ends by saying, there is a lot to improve on, they need to learn quickly as to what length they need to bowl and they need to read the wicket quickly.
Jason Holder says it is an important win, they wanted to start well and they have done that. Further adds it was a strange game, they lost wickets at regular intervals but the partnerships at the end was very good and credits Rashid and Santner to get them to a competitive total. Mentions the pitch was a touch slow and the pacers had it easier than the seamers but their spinners showed a lot of quality and bowled well. Ends by saying, their batting has always been inconsistent but they need to fire and he hopes they can do well in the upcoming games.
Man of the Match, Mitchell Santner says they bowled well up front, they went really hard with the bat at the start but they did well to get to 150. Mentions they thought it was competitive total, the wicket was a touch slow and Jason Holder started off well. Further adds it was not easy to grip the ball as it was wet but they did a very good job collectively.
Earlier in the day, after electing to bowl, the Patriots did a fine job with the ball courtesy Cottrell, Emrit and Tanvir. They would have been happy at the halfway mark when they kept Tridents to something just above 150. The defending champions though proved why they were the winners last year by defending a total which at one stage seemed under par.
So the defending champions have started this campaign off with a win! A hard-fought win to be honest! There were times in this innings where they were behind the 8-ball game but they did not lose hope, won the crunch moments and in the end came out on top. Defending a moderate total, they needed early wickets and they got both the openers quickly. Dunk and da Silva then got the chase back on track but Dunk gifted his wicket away. Ramdin then came in and played cleverly. They seemed in control till the 18th over but Rashid's final over completely changed the game. Two wickets and just the three runs saw the Patriots needing 14 per over in the last two which they could not score.

OUT! KABOOM! Two-in-two for Rashid. Once again the brilliant leggie has delivered when his team needed him to. We did mention this is going to be a crucial over and Rashid has picked two and put his team right on top. A golden duck for Hamilton. He does not pick the googly. It lands on off and then turns back in. Hamilton plays all around it. He misses and it hits the off pole. On a hat-trick is Rashid.

OUT! TAKEN! What a catch that is! WOW! Just wow! He dropped a straightforward catch earlier but this is a rippa. Ramdin can't believe it. He surely must have thought he has got a boundary there when he struck it. He brings out the slog sweep. Hits it nice and flat to the right of deep mid-wicket. It seems in the gap but Walsh runs to his right, dives and takes it with two hands. First wicket for Rashid and at an important time.

OUT! Finally, the partnership has been broken, they have looked dangerous but Dunk has to head back now! Just what the Tridents needed. Coming to the ball, Tossed up around middle, Dunk makes room again and hits high up in the air down the ground towards long off. He does not have the distance and hence, can only find the fielder who doesn't fumble and takes it cleanly. Will this turn the tide in the favour of the Tridents? It is a timely wicket.

NOT OUT! Rashid does save a boundary but da Silva is in! This is shorter and outside off, Dunk slaps it through covers. They take two. Rashid slides, tries to push the ball back in but it rolls back towards him again. He though pushes it back in again but he may have been touching the ropes in the attempt to do so. He gets back to his feet and fires it to the keeper as the batters go for the third. The keeper whips the bails off and appeals. The umpire takes it upstairs. They first check if it is a boundary but Rashid has done well. Now time to check if da Silva is short but he isn't.

We are back for the chase! The Tridents players walk out to the middle. Evin Lewis and Chris Lynn are the openers for Patriots. Kyle Mayers starts the proceedings for the bowling side.
Now then, this could well be a tricky chase as the Tridents have good bowlers in their side. The patriots will need a good start from their dynamic openers. An interesting second half awaits. Do join us in a bit.
The Patriots were excellent with the ball! Except for Joseph and Sodhi the others were really effective. Had it not been a bad day for the two, the Tridents might not have crossed 100. Cottrell, Tanvir and Emrit all picked two but Sheldon was the pick.
So, the Tridents have crawled their way to a competitive total! Still under par but they will be pleased with where they have finished especially after the start they had. They lost their top three within the first three overs. Mayers and Holder then counter-attacked and took their side to safer shores. However, the Tridents kept on losing wickets at regular intervals which did not help their cause. A handy cameo in the end though from Rashid helped them cross the 150-run mark.

OUT! What a soft dismissal, this is! Very poor batting by the Kiwi Santner here. A good length ball outside off, Santner just plays it uppishly towards the man at cover and the fielder is not going to make a mess of that as he pouches that one very easily. The Tridents are falling apart like dominoes here!

OUT! Carter is indeed short! Once again the game has swung in the Patriot's favor. Two wickets in two balls, not what the Tridents needed especially when things were going brilliantly for them. Half their side is back in the hut. Also, this is brilliant from Lewis. What a day is he having on the field! Two catches and now a run out. It is shorter and around off, Carter drops it towards point and takes off. Lewis gets to the ball quickly and hits bull's eye at the non-striker's end. The fielders are already celebrating but the umpire takes it upstairs. Replays show that Carter is short.

This one is bowled on a good length outside off and Mayers can't resist and accepts the bait as he hits the ball on the up towards deep cover and Hamilton over there makes no mistake with the catch. The players now make their way out to the middle! Charles and Hope are the openers for the Tridents. Tanvir has the new ball in hand. Here we go...
Barbados Tridents (PLAYING XI) - Johnson Charles, Shai Hope (WK), Corey Anderson, Kyle Mayers, Jonathan Carter, Jason Holder (C), Mitchell Santner, Ashley Nurse, Rashid Khan, Raymon Reifer, Hayden Walsh.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (PLAYING XI) - Chris Lynn, Evin Lewis, Denesh Ramdin (WK), Ben Dunk, Rayad Emrit (C), Jahmar Hamilton, Sohail Tanvir, Joshua Da Silva, Ish Sodhi, Sheldon Cottrell, Alzarri Joseph.
Jason Holder says it may be a good toss to win with the weather around but now they will have to bat first and do it well. States he is happy to play some cricket as he needed some fresh air. Further adds Santner is a quality all-rounder and they have quality local players who are looking to perform well here. Ends by saying consistency is key, they did not start well last year but they did well towards the end and they are confident heading into the game.
Ryad Emrit says there is a lots of rain around and the pitch seems damp so they want to make use of the conditions. Further adds they are looking forward to this competition, the players are eager to get onto the field and give their best. States Allen is a big miss as he is a three dimensional player but they have others who they can rely on.
TOSS - Patriots have won the toss and they have elected to field.
Hello and Welcome to the second match of the day as we kick off the 2020 edition of CPL. The winners of the previous edition Barbados Tridents will be duelling against St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots. The former is the champions of last year and the latter were eliminated in the eliminator. The aim will be the same for the Tridents this year and the Patriots will be eager to go one step ahead. However, there is still time for that, both will want to start off this year's campaign with a win. Both the sides have quite a few renowned names of this format and it is difficult to pick the better side on paper. We can surely expect an exciting clash. Stay tuned for the toss and teams in a while...
