Right then, the Joburg Super Kings who were desperately craving for a positive result, have clinched their first victory of this year's SA20 and defeated the Pretoria Capitals handsomely with two overs remaining. That's all from the doubleheader from today. But the cricketing action will continue at the SA20 2024 as the Paarl Royals will host the MI Cape Town at Boland Park tomorrow and the match will begin at 9 pm IST (3.30 pm GMT) but you can join us a lot sooner for the build-up. Until then, cheers, goodbye!
The Player of the Match Donovan Ferreira is up for a chat for his scintillating knock. He says that he really enjoyed his outing in the middle. Adds that he was just trying to strike the ball on its merit and managed to do that clinically today. Credits Moeen Ali for his advice in the partnership between them that helped him go big. Mentions that he was aware of the dimensions of the ground and played accordingly. Closes by thanking the supporters for an electrical atmosphere.
The winning skipper Faf du Plessis says that the team needed it and the crowd was excellent. The bowlers did a good job and so did the batters in the slog overs. Says that Donovan is a talented batter and showed the composure and temperament. Adds that the way he set up things for them was important. Says that they spoke after the previous game that instead of waiting for the things to happen, they need to land the first puch. Says that this game is 90 percent confidence and they will take it tonight. Lauds Moeen that those biggest sixes stole the show.
Wayne Parnell, the losing skipper is up for a chat. He says he feels they are in a fortunate situation to entertain people around but he is disappointed about the loss. Adds that he feels that they had the defendable target but the partnership between Donovan Ferreira and Moeen Ali was key to the game at the end. Mentions that they play again in a couple of days so they will learn from this but not make a big deal out of it.
The Presentation Ceremony...
The Pretoria Capitals chose to bat first and after a topsy-turvy first innings and a decent bowling performance from the Joburg Super Kings' pacers, they somehow managed to breach the 160 mark thanks to Kyle Verreynne's brilliant knock at the backend of the first innings, after being put on the back seat. Coming to the run chase, Joburg Super Kings too, struggled early on but their batters contributed pretty well, and Sibonelo Makhanya came as a surprise package as he provided the foundation of a strong finish and the rest was executed with precision by Moeen Ali, and Donovan Ferreira at the backend as they helped the struggling ship of Joburg Super Kings cross the victory line with twelve balls remaining. The Joburg Super Kings registered their first match of this edition after coming from three consecutive defeats on the trot.
As for the Capitals, they had a respectable total to defend and started off on the positive lines as Will Jacks created an inroad by sending both the openers packing. But they were taken aback as they leaked too many runs in the middle overs. Adil Rashid was brought back into the attack and he didn't disappoint as he broke the partnership and brought the Capitals right back into the contest. But they couldn't hold onto their nerves in the climax of the game and just kept leaking runs in a jiffy. Hardus Viljoen proved to be too expensive and barring Will Jacks and Adil Rashid, none of the bowlers actually provided the breakthroughs when it mattered the most. They conceded 57 off the last five overs and resultant, they lost the game with two overs to spare.
What a cracker of a run chase we have had and what a sensational cricket match overall. The Joburg Super Kings started off losing both their openers inside the Powerplay and were put in a precarious situation upfront. But sooner, Sibonelo Makhanya and the in-form Leus du Plooy stitched up a counterattacking partnership of 70 runs and sneaked back right into the contest. But the moment they were to put their feet on the accelerator, du Plooy perished after a well-made 33 and was followed by his partner Makhanya who departed on a quick 40 and they were all backs against the wall in a flash. Moeen Ali played responsibly for a bit and weaved a crucial partnership with Ferreira and broke the shackles just when they needed to. Donovan looked in a hurry to finish off the things with a blistering knock of 56 off just 20 rocks. With such sheer aggression from the two, the JSK finished off things in style.
