Right then! That's it from the first game of the Women's Hundred competition! Oval Invincibles Women are up and running! While Northern Superchargers Women will have to wait to grab those crucial points. We have another double-header coming up in The Hundred on 12th August! It's will be Southern Brave Women up against London Spirit Women in the women's competition. The action is set to get underway at 7.30 pm IST (2.00 pm GMT). The next game will game be Southern Brave versus London Spirit in the men's competition. That game is set to begin at 11.00 pm IST (5.30 pm GMT). But as you all know our build-up will begin in advance. So do join us then! It's goodbye from here!
Dane Van Niekerk the skipper of Oval Invincibles Women says that it is a great feeling to win the first game of the tournament. She praises Lauren Winfield for her innings and also their bowlers to restrict them under 150. She says that when Alice Capsey got out of the field injured in the first innings they were a bit concerned but were relieved that it was nothing serious. She ends by saying that it is Alice Capsey's 18th birthday so there will be a lot of celebration.
Lauren Winfield is the Player of the Match. She says it was great fun but she had to work hard for her runs. Claims that the Northern Superchargers Women know her well and had to make up shots that she had not played much in the past. Says she is happy to play well and help the team get points on the board. Mentions that she decided to spread her wings and therefore she came to a new team and loved it from day one claiming that her teammates have made her feel at home. Goes on to say that she tries to take the game on, use the Powerplay, and set the tone. She wanted to maintain a boundary mindset as she is enjoying playing cricket and the new environment feels good. Says the team is competitive and is filled with many good players and everyone is fulfilling their roles. Says they will hope to get a double though she can not call it a double since she wasn’t there last year.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier in the game, Northern Superchargers Women were asked to bat first and they did put up a fighting total on the board. Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura Wolvaardt were the batters who pushed them over the 140-mark. At the halfway mark of the game, Northern Superchargers Women would have probably thought the target was good enough, but Oval Invincibles Women have just breezed past through and have made a mockery of the chase!
On the other hand, Northern Superchargers Women will be very disappointed with their effort in defending this total. They gave away too many boundary balls and were a bit sloppy in the field as well. They looked out of ideas to break the opening stand of the Oval Invincibles Women until Suzie Bates gave her wicket away. Although, Suzie Bates was dropped on the 17th ball of the game. Had Katie Levick taken that catch, things could have been different for Northern Superchargers Women. This was not the start that they would have hoped for, but they need to learn from this.
Oval Invincibles Women will be very happy with their performance with the blade. Their opening pair of Suzie Bates and Lauren Winfield have helped them to a comfortable victory, chasing down a tricky total with ease. Both of them started well and never looked like they were in any trouble. They added 104 runs to the total. Suzie Bates fell just short of her fifty, but Lauren Winfield did not fail and remained unbeaten to take her side over the finish line with birthday girl Alice Capsey hitting the winning runs. A clinical performance from the reigning champions!
The defending champions have started off their campaign with a victory and in some style. They have certainly played like champions here!

FOUR! Make that three! What a player Alice Capsey is and she is here to make her mark! Linsey Smith drags this one short and outside off, Alice Capsey goes back in the crease and pulls this towards deep square leg for another boundary. There was a fielder placed there but she had no chance of stopping this.

FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries! Some poor fielding in the deep. Linsey Smith flights this full outside off, Alice Capsey charges down the wicket and lofts the ball towards long on. She does not connect well and the ball falls just short of the fielder. She does not catch the ball on the bounce and it hits her and goes towards the long on fence. Make that four more. Oval Invincibles Women are now just one hit away from a win.
