Right. That is all from this game and this concludes the league stage of the tournament. On Sunday, 19th December 2021, we move into the playoffs, starting with the Eliminator, where Dabulla Giants will take on the Colombo Stars, followed by Qualifier 1 where Jaffna Kings will be up against Galle Gladiators. Do join us there. Until then, adios!
Angelo Mathews, the skipper of Colombo Stars, says that they had ups and downs in the tournament but the way the boys showed up tonight on a tough wicket was commendable. Mentions that the way Kusal and Chandi batted was very good. He adds that dropping lower in the order was a tactical decision tonight as he wanted to take on the pressure in the death overs and luckily it worked for them.
Angelo Perera, the skipper of Kandy Warriors, says that they could not execute their plans in this game. Adds that in the last 3 games their pacers did well but in this game, they had a bad outing. Finishes by saying that they played better than what the table would show.
Jeffrey Vandersay is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH! Vandersay says that he is happy to make a comeback to playing competitive cricket after not being in the initial draft. Adds that it was a great opportunity for him to showcase his talent and he mentions that he has gone through some tough times recently, so is happy with the way things have turned out.
Stay tuned for the presentation.
Chasing 183 was never going to be a cakewalk for the Warriors. They leaked out runs while bowling, but no batter up stepped either. They did start in a fiery way but lost their openers within no time. The experienced Ravi Bopara tried setting the right tone in the middle, but he too could not hold on till the end. They had a mountain to climb, but could not reach the top. That's the end of Kandy Warriors in the Lanka Premier League 2021. They will be hoping to come back stronger in the next season.
After a scintillating batting performance, the Stars did the trick with the ball as well. Jeffrey Vandersay grabbed 6 wickets and demolished the batting order of Kandy Warriors. Unlike their opponents, the pacers of Stars did well to keep things under control and not leak runs. Colombo Stars were the better team today and have advanced to the Eliminator. They end their league stage with a victory, but they face a new challenge ahead of them.
It is Colombo Stars who will progress to the Eliminator! They have outplayed Kandy Warriors and have sealed the final spot in the playoffs. Angelo Mathews and his team had to wait for a while but they would be very happy with the way they played today.
