Man of the Match
Sarah Glenn
Commentry
That concludes the proceedings for this extremely one-sided match. On 13th September (Tuesday), these two teams will cross swords in the second T20I at 11 pm IST (5.30 pm GMT). As always, you can join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
Sarah Glenn (4-0-23-4) is the Player of the Match. Says that they did well as a unit and thanks the crowd as well for all the support. Shares that it was tough to grip the ball, so bowling a disciplined line was crucial. On her bowling partnership with Sophie Ecclestone, Glenn replies that Sophie is a crucial player for the team and she looks up to her and feels they bowl well together. Tells that she knew if the batters play their game, they will be fine in the chase.
Amy Jones, the captain of England Women, is all smiles. Says that winning the first game of the series is always important. Shares that she is quiet as a captain and praises the girls for stepping up. Mentions that she kept getting inputs from many players and she takes all the information and tries to read the game. Feels that it was a good score to chase as the pitch was a bit skiddy. States that it's fantastic to win so convincingly and calls the form of their top three unbelievable.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of India Women, is looking very upset. Says that they were forced to play as the conditions were not apt. She is happy that her girls put in the effort. Further says that the ground was too wet and there were chances to get injured. Also says that one of her key bowlers got injured and that affected them. Adds that they are here to play cricket and the next two games are important and they will look to bounce back.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier, England Women were superb with the ball. They started in an ordinary way but quickly pulled things back. Sarah Glenn's four-fer pushed India Women on the back foot and the touring team never recovered. Deepti Sharma scored some handy runs at the backend but eventually, a total of 132 was demolished by England Women.
This is a game India Women would like to forget quickly. They were below-par with the bat, insipid with the ball and abject with their ground fielding. They dropped a few catches and were shambolic on the field. Renuka Singh had Sophia Dunkley caught in the first over but she had overstepped and from thereon, Dunkley made India pay. Shafali Verma dropped a sitter of a catch offered by her and all in all, nothing went India's way this evening. Harmanpreet Kaur will be very disappointed with the overall effort of her girls.
A thumping win for England Women! They overhauled the target with 7 overs to spare and handed India Women a hefty defeat. It's a clinical performance from the home team, both with the ball and with the bat. Sophia Dunkley was brilliant and made use of the lives granted to her while Alice Capsey once again stamped her class.
