Right! How does the points table look? The Strikers have jumped to third spot with 3 points from 2 games. The Scorchers are dumped to 7th from 2 points in 3 games. The final Big Bash game before Christmas sees an afternoon fixture - as Hobart Hurricanes take on Melbourne Renegades at the Bellerive Oval. Join us on Tuesday, 24th December, 2019 at 2.45 pm local (0345 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Earlier, the Scorchers' bowlers were put to the sword by Jake Weatherald and Alex Carey. The visitors had no answer to their carnage and almost conceded 200 in 18 overs. A forgetful day for the Men in Orange.
Have to blame the Scorchers for losing this. 75 needed from 55 balls, with 8 wickets in hand, albeit having two new batsmen in the middle. All they needed was one good partnership and one solid hand. Sadly for them, no one hung around. First Rashid choked them and then the others came to the party at the death. Khan finished with 3 wickets while Conway and Wes Agar got 2 apiece.
Okay. So what happened? First the Strikers pummeled the Scorchers to rocket to 198, that too, in just 18 overs. Then, they were given the same treatment as the opening pair of Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone clobbered 124 runs inside 9 overs and the game looked dead and buried there. But Rashid Khan's inspirational second over turned things on its head as he dismissed both openers in successive balls. The Scorchers could never recover.
JAKE WEATHERALD HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Is proud to be part of such a great game and lauds the batsmen and the bowlers. Admits that the pitch was really good and praises his bowlers for holding their nerves in a tight situation.
Victorious Adelaide Strikers captain, Alex Carey holds the trophy aloft. Thanks the crowd for coming in large numbers and praises his players for pulling things back superbly.
Coach Jason Gillespie looks a relieved man. The Jason Gillespie Trophy is retained by the Strikers. More importantly, the Blues are on the board. A superb turnaround by Alex Carey's men to upstage the game.

OUT! CAUGHT! Phillip Salt has taken one for the highlight reel. Phenomenal effort. A short ball outside off, Green pulls it wide of long on. Or he thinks it is wide. But Salt runs full length to his right, dives, takes the catch with outstretched hands and then bangs his face onto the turf! A bit of blood comes out as well. Jonathan Wells gets across from deep mid-wicket and hugs him, both fielders being in smiles.

TACTICAL TIMEOUT. The Strikers need this desperately. They could have easily had 2-3 wickets in the last over but such is their luck, that none came. The match looks well in control of the Scorchers - but two new batsmen are out in the middle. If the Blues can manage to bowl a couple of good tight overs, we might be in for a close finish.

FOUR! TONK! That is some start to the run chase. A short ball, around middle, Inglis swivels and pulls this through mid-wicket for a boundary!
The second innings is underway! 199 needed from 108 balls. The players are out in the middle. Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone are the openers for the Scorchers. Harry Conway, making his debut for the Strikers, to start off proceedings to Inglis.
We are hearing that the DLS target is 199 only, meaning there is no adjustment. The Scorchers will be happy with that. Can they take the pitch as an inspiration and fight hard? Stay tuned for the run chase.
Only Jhye Richardson managed to hold some respect for himself. 4-0-29-2 were his returns. But the rest, including the reliant Chris Jordan, were just picked off. No one tried to be innovative with their lengths and got punished.
We were treated to a batting display from two elegant left-handers. First, Jake Weatherald teed off and then, when Alex Carey came on, it just seemed like he was batting the most fluent in his life! That stand of 71 in 30 balls for the third wicket completely pushed Perth on the back foot who simply struggled to get their lines and lengths right.
A terrific final over. 4 runs and a wicket. But Perth only had a few good overs like that! The carnage started from the 11th over, as the passage from overs 11-17 yielded 103/1! Sensational batting.

OUT! CAUGHT! It needed something special to end a special innings. And Ashton Agar has delivered that. Slower ball from Jhye, 116 kph, fuller in length around middle, Carey gets down and looks to slog this over the on side. He gets plenty of height on it and it also seems like he will get the distance too. But just the trajectory of the parabola is completed, one suddenly sees Ashton Agar stand at the ropes. He leaps, takes the catch and then lands. Checks whether he is touching the ropes or not but balances himself superbly! The batsman walks off and the new man is in as well but the umpires now get together to check the legality of the catch. After a long time, they signal it as out. A stunning knock ends from Carey.

He charged on to the ball and returned a perfect throw to keeper Inglis who took the bails off. The appeal was referred upstairs and replays confirmed that Weatherald's fine knock has to end here. 83 from 47 balls. Wow.
Is that a run out? Weatherald has gone for a risky second and the keeper has taken the bails off and appealed. Looks close. Replays confirm Weatherald is short!

FOUR! That is not a bad ball by any stretch. But just pure piece of brilliant batting. A low full toss outside off, Carey backs away and just eases this through the covers. There are two men sweeping on the off side in the deep. Backward point and cover. Bisects them to perfection!

WIDE. With Carey backing away, it is understandable that Paris wants to go wide outside off. But he ends up being too wide outside off. And main thing - Alex does not back away at all.

FOUR! LOVELY! What a start after the break. Full and outside off, Carey backs away a touch and drives this through the covers. Sweeper gets across to his left but not in time! 50-RUN STAND IS UP AS WELL!
Joel Paris is back on. 2-0-21-0 so far.
Tactical Timeout enforced on the Strikers. The rule states that a team needs to take it before the 13th over. Else, it would be enforced. But cannot blame the Strikers for not taking the timeout. Who would want it as a batting side, batting so well?

OUT! CAUGHT! The 86-run stand has been broken. A skidder from Fawad, fractionally short. Short goes back to pull, thinking it is a short ball but because it skids on, he is a bit late on the shot. He hits this high in the air, aiming to clear mid-wicket but ends up getting more height than distance. Two fielders get under it, long on and deep mid-wicket but Liam Livingstone from the latter position calls for it and takes it cleanly. Fine knock from Short.

LBW SHOUT, STUMPING MISSED! Inglis got distracted there. The wrong 'un, Short goes back to flick but misses and is hit on the pads. Fawad appeals for LBW but Short does not know where the ball is. He sets off for a run and at that time, Inglis is looking at the umpire to see if he has given Short out lbw. But then, he quickly sees that Short is out of his crease and looks to affect the stumping. But he fumbles. At that precise moment, Short realizes where the ball is and gets back. But now, understanding that he has missed the stumping, Inglis appeals for LBW. Too high.

We are done with the break. AND THE POWERPLAY AS WELL. The match is curtailed to 18 overs per side. Here is Fawad Ahmed to bowl his leggies.
Well, good news. THE COVERS ARE GOING OFF! As predicted, the rain has not lasted long. The rope is out there, just removing the water from the ground. The Scorchers dugout gets ready to do some warmups now.
Jhye Richardson is up for a chat now. Feels that the rain break came at an opportune time, as they can now assess where they went wrong with the ball. On Weatherald's knock, Jhye says that it is all about keeping the runs tight and not giving him room.
Alex Carey is having a chat now. On the interruption and what the players do, Carey says that they cannot do much than just wait for instructions from the match referee. On a geographical note, Carey says that Adelaide needs rain and is hopeful that more of that comes from the hills. But also adds that he was not expecting this, as the temperatures were 40 degrees Celsius this morning. On Weatherald's attacking shots, Carey is happy to see his team in a good position, especially, when he would have preferred to bowl first in this rain. Is looking forward to finish this game and then spending Christmas with his family.
Chris Jordan is ready to bowl but he will have to wait. On come the covers. The drizzle is getting heavier but the groundstaff is confident this will not be a long delay.
