In the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals, South Africa’s skipper Laura Wolvaardt guided her team to a historic triumph over reigning champions Australia. In addition to guaranteeing their spot in the final, the Proteas’ eight-wicket victory was their first-ever victory over Australia in the tournament’s history.
In the Dubai encounter, South Africa achieved their highest-ever target chase in a T20 World Cup, successfully chasing 135 runs. The South African squad was especially happy with this win because it was retaliation for losing to the same opponents in the previous year’s final. Wolvaardt was passionate during the post-match presentation after playing a pivotal 42-run knock.
“It is undoubtedly one of my greatest victories in cricket, and I rank it right up there. It was said by a couple of other gals. Anneke batted brilliantly, and the chase was incredible. We have had a successful year. It was a truly team effort; we may have done a little more analysis of the opposing teams. I’m delighted some of the ideas succeeded, and I felt the bowlers did a great job of containing them,” Wolvaardt said.
Right now, the West Indies appear to be favorites: Laura Wolvaardt
For her undefeated 74 off 48 balls, Anneke Bosch was named Player of the Match. Bosch’s innings was hailed by Wolvaardt as one of the best of her career and the ideal moment to bring it up.
“After talking with Taz, we decided to put the foot down because we didn’t have the best two overs at the beginning of the game. Anneke performed a fantastic job and gave us the kick. “What a time to bring it up and one of the best of her career,” she continued.
Australia’s remarkable run of 15 straight tournament titles came to an end with this victory. Upon winning their final spot, the South African players broke down in tears. Wolvaardt recognized the power of both possible opponents, New Zealand and the West Indies, as he looked ahead to the final.

“I’m not sure; both teams are devastating on their days. The West Indies appear to be the favorites at the moment, but Amelia Kerr and company are too important to ignore. There were many South Africans present, and the crowd was pleasant,” she said.
