Kyle Abbott has signed a new deal that will keep him at Hampshire for the foreseeable future

Following the signing of a two-year extension to his previous contract with Hampshire, Kyle Abbott will continue to play for the county for at least the next two seasons.

Abbott re-joined Hampshire on a Kolpak agreement prior to the 2017 season; he had recently played for them in 2014. Abbott has been one of Hampshire’s abroad players ever since eligibility rules were modified as a result of the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union.

Since re-signing with them, he has collected 278 first-class wickets for them at an average of 19.52. He is also the leading wicket-taker in Division One of the County Championship this year with 49 wickets at an average of 20.28 each.

Abbott expressed his excitement over continuing his employment with Hampshire for another two years, saying, “I’m delighted.” Since I joined the team in 2017, I’ve established some wonderful friendships and memories, and I’m extremely glad to be able to say that the Ageas Bowl is my home. “We have a fantastic roster of players, and I’ve created some wonderful friends and memories here.

“As a group, we’ve made some significant advancements, and I have high hopes that we’ll be able to carry this level of performance into the upcoming years and bring home even more hardware.”

“Introducing the appropriate people to the squad is a critical aspect to a successful team,” said Giles White, the director of cricket for Hampshire. “We feel that we’ve struck gold with Kyle,” White said. He has a true passion for the club and has been one of the most important foreign players in the English game during the course of his career. We are quite fortunate to have him.”
