August 15, 2024 is the date of the famous All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament’s return, which comes after a six-year break. This event seems to be an important training ground for the domestic season in 2024–2025.
At the beginning of every Indian domestic cricket season, the Buchi Babu event has historically drawn the best Test players.
Although the event may not have had the same allure as it once had, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) thinks a resuscitation of the competition is essential to attracting new talent.
There will be 12 teams in the event, split into 4 groups, and matches will be held at 4 different locations in Tamil Nadu: Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Salem, and Natham.
The Ranji Trophy league stages will be modelled after the competition’s four-day red-ball format. The grand final and second semifinal will take place at Natham, after the first semifinals are conducted in Tirunelveli. The winner team will take home a prize money of INR 3 lakhs, and the runners-up will take home INR 2 lakhs.
Group A consists of Hyderabad, Jharkhand, and the reigning champions, Madhya Pradesh. Railways, Gujarat, and the TNCA President’s XI are in Group B, and the Mumbai, Haryana, and TNCA XI, the reigning Ranji Trophy winners, are in Group C. Jammu & Kashmir, Baroda, and Chhattisgarh make up Group D’s final lineup.
Rounds 1–3 take place on August 21–24 and August 27–30, respectively, after the tournament’s first round on August 15–18. The top two teams from each group will move on to the semi-finals, which take place in Natham from September 2–5. The grand final is slated for September 8–11.
Ishan Kishan, a wicketkeeper-batter, and Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of the Indian T20I team, may play in the competition. Asia Mumbai’s team will be led by test batter Sarfaraz Khan, who would give the competition more celebrity power.
