Indian cricket fans would always associate November 19, 2023, with sadness and regretful what-might-haves. Australia defeated the Men in Blue in the World Cup final that day at the magnificent Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, preventing them from winning their third World Cup.
With a steely 66 to lead India in scoring, KL Rahul recently shared his biggest regret from that awful day. Rahul disclosed the one choice he would like to make if given the chance to speak with colleague Ravichandran Ashwin on the latter’s YouTube channel, “Kutti Stories.”
“If I could allow giving a time machine & reviewing one decision to correct it all over again, what would it be?” Ishwin enquired.
Right then, I was stuck: KL Rahul
Rahul replied with a hint of sadness, saying, “I was stuck at the moment, whether to take down Starc or just play him as it was reversing, bowling in tough angle,” during the World Cup final versus Australia.
KL Rahul expressed his belief that India would have won the World Cup if he had played a longer inning. “I regret nicking it in that confusion because it could have been 30+ runs and the World Cup in our hands,” Rahul said.
The middle order found it difficult to adjust to the pitch’s characteristics against Australia’s bowling assault, despite captain Rohit Sharma’s outstanding start of 47 off only 31 balls. Australia won the match and their sixth World Cup victory thanks to a match-winning century (137) from Travis Head, despite the fact that Virat Kohli and KL Rahul guided India to 240 in 50 overs.

India won ten straight games, the majority of them rather easily, before ultimately losing to Australia in the crucial encounter. Although India played an amazing brand of cricket during the tournament, Pat Cummins and the squad prevailed on that particular day.
