During the post-match press conference, LSG captain KL Rahul shared his reflections on the team’s season and its development. He said that going into the season, he thought his club had a good core of players who could cover most ground. He did, however, note that the squad’s composition suffered a great deal as a result of the injuries sustained by streaking quick Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan, as well as the pre-tournament withdrawal of English pacers Mark Wood and David Willey for personal reasons.
The Lucknow Super Giants’ hopes were greater after two consecutive third-place finishes in their first two seasons in the Indian Premier League than their final sixth-place result. Even though they defeated the Mumbai Indians by eighteen runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Match 67 of the 2024 Indian Premier League, they could only manage sixth place. Even though they are currently tied on points with both the Delhi Capitals and the Chennai Super Kings (who have a game in hand), they found themselves below them with the second-lowest net run rate in the league this season, -0.667.
“I thought we had a good team and most of the bases covered at the start of the season. But those injuries and the guys that went away really dented us a little bit.”
After MI versus LSG, KL Rahul remarked, “[We] had] a couple of injuries, obviously, which happens to every team every season.
KL Rahul mentioned specific matches such as the one between DC and LSG and the one between KKR and LSG, saying that the squad did not work together well; there were times when bowlers performed well but batters did not, and vice versa. Their pursuit for a playoff slot was eventually hindered by this inconsistency, as they lost a few games from advantageous positions—a genuine testament to cricket’s status as a team sport.

Collectively, we didn’t play well enough. The hitters would not have a good game when the bowlers were on their game. The wicketkeeper-batter said, “We just didn’t come together as much as we would have wanted to.”
