KL Rahul may have to bat in the middle order as Shubman Gill has established himself as the opener across all formats.
One of cricket’s most eagerly awaited Test series is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The first Test between Team India and Australia is scheduled to begin on February 9 in Nagpur. The batting position of KL Rahul, 30, is one of the issues that have come up recently.
KL Rahul was one of the series’ top run scorers when Australia visited India in 2017 with 393 runs. With a score of 149 at the Oval in 2018, he managed to keep his form, although he still lost his spot in the Test squad. Due to Shubman Gill’s incredible recent form, the batter’s position in the team is questionable as Australia prepares to tour India once more.
KL Rahul spoke candidly about his batting position in the team during the pre-game news conference on Tuesday, saying, “If the team wants me to bat in the middle, I am ready to do it.”
KL Rahul offers his opinion on the first Test’s pitch conditions.
The wicketkeeper-batter Shubman Gill’s spot as the opener appears to be in jeopardy given his stellar performance. If Gill is chosen to open for India against Australia, Rahul doesn’t seem to mind batting lower in the order.
The 23-year-old has received support from many seasoned players to open alongside Rohit Sharma for the duration of the Test series. Rahul may go down the order now that Gill has established himself as the opener in all formats.
Rahul also mentioned that the squad wanted to play three spinners because the pitches were favourable to spin “Due to the turning track in India, there would be a temptation to play three spinners, but we won’t know the pitch until game day. Undecided on starting XI; difficult decision; a few gaps exist.”
