Sunrisers Hyderabad, who had been out of the playoff picture for years, assembled a strong team for the 2024 Indian Premier League and went on to finish as the runner-up team. Kavya Maran, a co-owner, expressed satisfaction with the players’ performance and plans to keep the core group for the event in 2025. But with the mega-auction approaching, things appear challenging at the moment because it’s unclear how many players each team can keep for the upcoming edition.
Meanwhile, Kavya Maran said that the Right To Match (RTM) cards should provide each team the option to purchase the players at auction or allow them to keep at least six players on their roster.
She clarified that in order to prevent players from being dissatisfied with their retention amount or from wanting to be the first player retained, the officials ought to reinstate the RTM cards. She thinks that if the players are purchased with RTM cards, they won’t be able to voice any complaints regarding the payment.
It can be used as two RTMS and four retentions, as all six RTMS and all six retentions, and so on. According to NDTV, Maran stated that the franchise should decide whether to utilise a retention or RTM after consulting with the player.
“Players who believed that the retention fee was on the lower side have on multiple occasions in the past chosen to go to the auction. In some cases, several players have expressed the opinion that they ought to be the first person retained; if this isn’t the case, they have requested to be placed in the auction. In order to prevent this, we can ensure that the player is not unhappy with the retention price by offering them the option to either be kept or RTM at the market discovered price, the player explained.

The co-owner of SRH added that teams would need to provide players with side contracts if the BCCI only permits retention. On the other hand, there will be greater financial transparency and no side deals if they permit the use of RTM cards.
