Karun Nair, captain of the Mysore Warriors and the top run scorer in the Maharaja T20 Trophy 2023, is certain that his team would persevere and win the trophy in the next game. The squad made it to the championship game last year after an incredible run, but they were defeated on the big night by a mere eight runs. This year, they strengthened the team by adding more weapons, and one such addition is young Samit Dravid, who inked his first franchise contract.
The eighteen-year-old is under pressure because he is the son of the late cricket great Rahul Dravid. The teenage player had an amazing experience in the Cooch Behar Trophy, scoring 362 runs in eight matches and scooping up 16 wickets with the ball. Mysore signed him for INR 50,000 at the auction in order to monitor his progress, although he is not assured a spot in the starting lineup.
Considering the dearth of pace-bowling all-rounders in the nation, Samit is probably going to gain a head start. When asked about his own improvement, Nair said that he was pleased with his performance in the practice camp as well as that of the other young players. He also mentioned that Samit is only one of many cricket players who are under pressure to perform well.
Everyone is under pressure to deliver. For every player at this level in the game, it is the same. I can’t wait to watch Samit succeed whenever he has the chance. In the camp, during our practice matches, and in the nets, he has been performing incredibly well. incredibly enthusiastic about everyone. Not just him. We have a strong group of both young and experienced players. During the Mysore Warrior’s “team introduction and jersey unveiling” event, Nair spoke with and said, “We are looking good and everyone is excited.”
In addition, the captain declined to discuss Prasidh Krishna’s suitability. The brilliant Indian pacer missed the 2024 IPL after undergoing surgery in February to repair his left proximal quadriceps tendon. Despite being included in Mysore’s T20 league team, Nair is unsure of when he will make an appearance in the starting lineup.
“On him, we don’t have any updates. We are limited to discussing our 19 players,” Nair stated.
Nair also stated that he wanted to set an example once more. He finished as the top run scorer last year after making 532 runs in 12 games at a strike rate of 162.69; he aims to do so again, but winning the tournament is what matters most to him. His desire is for Mysore to succeed and regain possession of the trophy.
“I have to go through the same procedure that I did last year. I want the team to succeed more than I want to try and repeat the same things and take the lead in runs scored. That would be fantastic. Reach the championship game like we did last year, and if we get the chance, go one step further and return the trophy to Mysore,” the 32-year-old stated.
The competition is an excellent learning opportunity for all Karnataka players: Karun Nair
The Maharaja T20 League has provided young Karnataka players with an opportunity to train with players such as Nair, Mayank Agarwal, Manish Pandey, and K Gowtham in the dressing room. Both Devdutt Padikkal and Vijaykumar Vyshak have benefited much from the league and have performed well enough to be awarded contracts for the Indian Premier League.
Having said that, Nair discussed the effect the event had on regional competitors and referred to it as one of the greatest in India. He expressed his gratitude to KSCA for enabling players to rise to the occasion and give their all.

“This tournament is fantastic. It’s an excellent starting point for all Karnataka athletes. Many thanks to KSCA for setting this up. It’s among India’s greatest competitions. Too many athletes get the chance to compete under duress and under bright light. For young players just starting out, it’s a fantastic chance and experience to walk on stage and be acknowledged, Nair stated.
