The Delhi Capitals Men’s and Delhi Capitals Women’s cricket teams will have their operations divided between the two owning groups on a two-year rotating basis, according to a statement released by GMR Group and JSW Group. The goal of the strategic move is to maximise operational efficiency for all teams under the Delhi Capitals franchise’s management.
As per the agreement, JSW Sports will oversee the Delhi Capitals Women’s team’s activities for the next two years, while GMR Group will manage the men’s team’s cricket operations. When JSW Sports takes over the management of the men’s squad in 2027, the roles will be reversed. However, the management team of the Delhi Capitals will still oversee the franchise’s business operations.
The Delhi Capitals’ board will make important decisions, including player releases, captaincy, auctions, and team retentions, after consulting with the top leadership of both organisations. GMR Group’s “Delhi Daredevils” club was one of the original IPL teams in 2008.
The IPL team was renamed the Delhi Capitals in 2018 when JSW Sports and GMR Group signed a 50:50 ownership agreement.
The Delhi Capitals have played in every tournament since 2008, making it to the semifinals in the first two and to the playoffs several more times. The team finished the season as second runners-up in 2019, which was their best-ever finish. In 2020, the Capitals took one step further and advanced to the IPL final for the first time in the team’s history.
The women’s team, which was purchased in 2023, has advanced to the Women’s Premier League final in both of its previous seasons.
