On Monday, the first test match of the three-match series was played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. England defeated Pakistan by 74 runs, giving them the win. The Three Lions won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored a staggering total of 657 runs, which set a new world record for scoring more than 500 runs on the first day of a cricket match. In response, Pakistan delivered an outstanding comeback with a combined score of 579 runs. In the fourth and final innings of the contest, the team led by Babar Azam was attempting to chase a target score of 343, but they were unsuccessful by 74 runs. After this defeat, Team Pakistan, notably skipper Babar Azam, came under intense scrutiny from cricket fans and previous players in the sport.
In Pakistan’s first innings, Babar Azam scored a century, but in their second innings, he was dismissed for only four runs and sent back to the dugout.
Ben Stokes bowled a short ball to Babar Azam in the sixth over of Pakistan’s chase, and the ball got caught on the inside edge and went straight into the hands of wicketkeeper Ollie Pope. This occurred when Pakistan was attempting to score runs.
During the press conference that took place after the match, a journalist questioned the Pakistan captain on his dismissal and remarked, “Kal aap jiss ball pe out huye the, kya aapko woh samajh nehi aayi thi nay kya mamla tha? Did you misread the ball that got you out as a batter, the one that got you out? (Aap jaise bade batsman aur aise ball pe out huye).
I mean, you are such a powerful batsman, and you were out by a delivery of that nature).”
To no one’s astonishment, Babar maintained his composure and calmness throughout the ordeal, and his response was, “Mamla toh kuch hai nehi. Jab aap galat khelenge toh out toh aap honge hi.
But when I played the wrong hit, which is what I expected would happen, the bowler got me out, but the wicket was held even though the fielder made a mistake (When you play the wrong shot, you do get out. Because the ball was able to cling to the wicket before it bounced, this opening was created.”
Fast bowlers Ollie Robinson and James Anderson each claimed four wickets to lead England to an exhilarating victory over Pakistan by 74 runs. Pakistan was defeated as a result of England’s victory.
On the placid ground at Rawalpindi Stadium, Anderson took 4-36 and Robinson took 4-50 to dismiss Pakistan for 268. At the same time, the floodlights of the stadium began to sparkle as daylight faded away.
After defying England for 35 minutes and 8.5 overs, Pakistan’s penultimate partnership of Naseem Shah (six) and Mohammad Ali (nought) were dismissed by spinner Jack Leach, who trapped Naseem leg-before, leaving England players jubilant. Mohammad Ali did not score.
The victory, which gave England a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series, enhanced England’s recently adopted “Bazball” cricket, which is an aggressive style that is derived from the moniker of the head coach, Brendon McCullum.
The second test is scheduled to take place in Multan from December 9 to 13, while the third test is scheduled to take place in Karachi from December 17 to 21.
