Jonathan Trott, the head coach of Afghanistan’s national team, is about to ink a new deal to continue leading the team. The offer, which follows the team’s outstanding results in the ODI World Cup 2023, is extremely close to getting his approval for a one-year extension.
The former cricket player for England disclosed that while he is content with the terms of the deal, he wants to confirm the coaching staff before he signs the renewal. Since assuming leadership in July 2022, Jonathan Trott has led Afghanistan to unprecedented success, as the team has achieved numerous historic victories.
Although I’ll sign it, I want to make sure I’m getting what’s best for the team. Though I still want the offer, my current concern is making sure I have the coaching staff and support I desire. Although there have been some coaching changes, the main goal is to ensure that the team is led by capable coaches and that they advance the team rather than retreat, as stated by Jonathan Trott, who was cited by the Independent.
I am making an effort to organize things. Jonathan Trott
Jonathan Trott added that he believes he is attempting to organize Afghan cricket. In order to leave the place in better shape for his successor, he disclosed his desire to do so.
I’m making an effort to organize things. When I leave something, I aim to leave it in a better state than when I discovered it. Trott stated, “We’re trying to win as many games as we can, not for ourselves, but to make sure we set the bar for the next coach or the next Afghan team.
“I constantly strive to achieve that in my role as a coach. That’s my main emphasis, he continued. “It also helps to have coaches or a mindset where you’re always pushing each other to get better.
With the extension, Trott will captain the team in the forthcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies even though his current contract is scheduled to expire at the end of 2023.
