In the next Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, India has been tipped by Australian spin bowler Jess Jonassen to be the team to beat. She added, nevertheless, that Australia, the reigning champions, should not be disregarded because they are capable of raising the stakes in major competitions.
Despite not being selected for Australia’s 10-member roster, Jonassen stated that the Indian team is the favourites to win because of their depth and adaptability. She also agreed that the Women in Blue are well-versed in the circumstances in the United Arab Emirates. It is noteworthy that since the tournament’s start in 2009, India has never triumphed in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Making it to the finals in 2020 is their greatest performance. In the meantime, Australia has been the most successful team in the competition’s history. Interestingly, they have taken home the cutlery seven times.
Because of their depth and adaptability, India is unquestionably the front-runner. Their understanding of the UAE’s conditions is superior. “We’ve never played there, but Australia is a formidable opponent in major tournaments, so don’t underestimate them,” Jonassen remarked at the Australian High Commission during ABC International Development’s five-day cricket commentary and mojo program.
We’ve been led to believe that this pool isn’t the hardest: Jess Jonassen
As Jess Jonassen noted, Australia knows very little about the circumstances in the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, the 31-year-old stated that Australia shouldn’t think they have an easy group in the competition. Group A includes Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, and New Zealand in addition to Alyssa Healy and Co.
“It will be difficult since we have played on surfaces and conditions from other subcontinents but not much about the UAE. We have also been led to believe that the pool we are in is not the hardest. However, I don’t believe there will be a single simple game, Jonassen continued.
Two groups of five have been formed from the ten teams. At the conclusion of the round-robin round, the top two teams from each group advance to the championship game.
