Following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, Rahul Dravid’s time as head coach of the Indian team has come to an end. Following his appointment as head coach in November 2021, Dravid won his maiden ICC title. Many supporters were upset when he quit the position and begged him to stay.
However, Rahul Dravid‘s firing as head coach was announced without giving a reason. The former batter’s decision to not extend his contract beyond the 2024 T20 World Cup was recently made public.
Prior to Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), disclosing the cause of Dravid’s exit, it was unknown. Shah said that Rahul Dravid’s tenure as Team India’s head coach is coming to an end because of family obligations.
“He informed me that he wishes to resign owing to obligations to his family, and we accept his choice. The Hindustan Times cited Jay Shah as adding, “I didn’t force him to extend.”
For the previous five and a half years, Rahul bhai has served Indian cricket. He worked as head coach of Team India for the last two and a half years after serving as director of the National Cricket Academy for three years, the speaker said.
Rohit Sharma’s and Rahul Dravid’s roles are equally significant: Jay Shah
In addition, Jay Shah was questioned about why Dravid’s contract was extended following India’s defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Shah answered that Dravid’s contribution to the Indian squad is equally significant to Rohit Sharma’s. He also disclosed that the hiring of a new coach is scheduled to occur shortly.
In this T20 World Cup championship victory, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid both play crucial roles. He is a man who led the team to the 2023 ODI World Cup final and refused to quit in order to complete the task at hand, according to Jay Shah.
