Along with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja announced his retirement from Twenty20 Internationals following a triumphant T20 World Cup. Jadeja’s name was absent from the ODI roster revealed by the selectors for the Sri Lanka series shortly after, suggesting that the all-rounder might not be included in the white-ball cricket team’s plans.
Reports state that Jadeja was reassured by the selectors that he is still part of the plans and will be taken into consideration for the next Champions Trophy.
For now, the plan is to let Axar Patel demonstrate his worth in one-day international cricket. The intention is to see if the all-round player, who was outstanding in the T20 World Cup, can perform similarly in the 50-over format.
For the series against Sri Lanka, Gambhir and the selectors did not want to include two left-arm spin-bowling all-round players. According to they also considered offering Jadeja, a mainstay in red-ball cricket, a break while keeping an eye on the hectic schedule. India wants Jadeja to take a rest now since they have ten Test matches scheduled in the next six months.
A status report on Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami, the premier pacer for India, has resumed his training at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He hasn’t quite recovered to full fitness, but the BCCI physicians and physiotherapists are closely monitoring his progress. The plan is to use him in the series against New Zealand or Bangladesh prior to the major series against Australia. Additionally, the 33-year-old is a candidate for the Champions Trophy.

On the other hand, it was falsely believed that Kuldeep Yadav would be removed from the T20Is. Although Ravi Bishnoi is second best to Kuldeep in wrist spins, the selectors wanted him to play more games and accumulate experience. Yuzvendra Chahal, his longtime companion, is also being considered in the meanwhile. The leg-spinner was a member of the T20 World Cup winning team, but he was oddly dropped after that. But reportedly, he will be taken into consideration moving ahead.
