Speaking from a drenched training session today is 25-year-old Curtis Campher, who has participated in 55 T20I matches for Ireland:
Miami, United States of America Although the session was hindered by the rain, the Ireland Men’s T20 international squad returned to training today in order to get ready for their upcoming match against the USA on Friday.
Yes, arriving in Fort Lauderdale for a few days to simply rest and recover has been a great reset for us. In order to maintain team spirit and camaraderie, we’ve done a couple group activities while the weather has been mostly excellent. When on tours and going through difficult situations, this is always crucial.
Inquired about his bowling strategy on the pitches that were the subject of much discussion:
The pitches and what they purport to do and not do have become major discussion points. In New York, I believe it was important to stick to a straightforward game plan and really hammer home a difficult length by bowling at six to eight metres while utilising slight variations.
“Batting has been difficult for everyone, so the ball’s only goal is to make it difficult for the batter—to maintain pressure.”
How does the camp feel right now?
It makes no difference how the other players in the group perform after you lose your opening two games. To have a shot at moving on to the Super 8, you must win the following two games – and do it with convincing results. We’ve faced challenges before, so maybe in the next two games, we can demonstrate our mettle—something we haven’t done in the previous two.
Since you played a significant role in past fightbacks, most notably the one in Hobart 2022, is it beneficial to be able to draw from such experiences when facing novel challenges?
Indeed, I believe that prior experiences undoubtedly aid in the present, but ultimately, they don’t influence the outcome of the game. Therefore, while it’s good to look back on those past experiences, our focus for the next several matches should be on carrying out our preparations on game day.
“Teams with a lot of talented, skillful players have performed exceptionally well in this event. We must therefore exercise discipline and approach each game and each occasion as they come. We can’t plan too far ahead because we have to win the first game before we can start considering the second.
