Following a pivotal session against the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2, Abhishek Sharma disclosed that Yuvraj Singh, his mentor, has told him he is a superior bowler. In the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) progress has been greatly aided by the young player from Punjab.
Prior to Sunday’s summit matchup with the Kolkata Knight Riders on May 26, Abhishek revealed that he developed his bowling technique in his early days of the game by working with his father, a left-arm spinner.
“Being a former left arm spinner, I believe my dad will be overjoyed because he has been putting a lot of effort into my bowling. I had a feeling that if I continued to improve my bowling, I could contribute to my team. I’ve been bowling a lot and taking wickets since junior cricket, so I was waiting for this chance,” Abhishek Sharma stated in a video posted on the IPL website.
“It did not come that easily as I had to really show my captain and coaches in the practice, because they had not seen much,” he stated.
Abhishek bowled a superb spell on the spin-friendly Chepauk track in Qualifier 2, taking crucial wickets of Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson and seasoned finisher Shimron Hetmyer to aid Sunrisers in holding the first-ever champions to 139/7 as they chased a 176-run goal. In 15 games, Abhishek has already amassed 482 runs at bat. It will now be difficult for the national selectors to keep him out of the Indian team for an extended period of time after witnessing his bowling prowess.

Abhishek believed that Yuvraj, the great player who used his all-around skills to win India multiple games, would be pleased with his contribution with the ball.
“Yuvi paji, or Yuvraj Singh, has always told me that I can become a better bowler than him whenever we have talked about bowling.
I’ve always thought that, and I think it will make him pleased too that I was able to contribute with my bowling,” Abhishek remarked.
