Ishant Sharma Recalls an Interesting Tale About Bumrah, Saying “Virat Said He Should Speak to Bumrah, and I Said Leave Him Alone”

Ishant Sharma has been regarded as one of the best bowlers India has produced for the Test format; yet, he is no longer “in the scheme of things” in terms of being considered for national selection. The seasoned pacer, on the other hand, has worked wonders with the red ball over the course of his career.

Ishant was formerly the dominant bowler for the India side when they played in whites, but it appears that Jasprit Bumrah has assumed his role as the “marquee pacer” for India.

Ishant recalled a story featuring Virat Kohli from a time when Bumrah had just joined the squad as a young player. The story is noteworthy since it involves Bumrah.

Ishant admitted in a conversation that they had on Cricbuzz that he has always had high aspirations for Bumrah. Ishant described an incident that took place in 2018 and explained how Bumrah didn’t have the best of first spells. As a result, Kohli expressed interest in having a conversation with Bumrah, but Ishant prevented him from doing so.

“I was well aware that Bumrah would one day rise to the position of leader. I can still vividly recall the year 2018, when we were competing in a test match in Australia, and how his first stint did not go very well. Virat suggested to me that I should go and have a conversation with him.

I told her, “He is a really intelligent bowler.” He understands it. Usko chhor de. Usko pata hai kya karna, kya nehi karna (Leave him alone. He is aware of the steps that need to be taken). In that regard, he possesses a lot of intelligence.

He is aware of the rules of the game as well as the current circumstances.

When you have a good grasp of the issue, particularly in test cricket, you have a far better chance of making a rapid recovery “he remarked.

During that very series, Bumrah collected a staggering 21 wickets, one of which was a five-wicket haul, helping India to achieve a victory that will live long in the memory.

Fast forward to the present day, and Bumrah has solidified his position as one of the most accomplished bowlers in the world, regardless of whether white-ball or red-ball cricket is being played.
