MS Dhoni scored only one run off two deliveries against the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2023 on May 23. In response, former India international Irfan Pathan stated that he wishes MS Dhoni continued to participate in the lucrative tournament. Notably, the cricketer is suffering from a knee injury, and as a result, some reports have suggested that the 41-year-old may retire at the conclusion of the current season. However, Dhoni himself clarified that he is uncertain about the matter but will make a decision soon.
Irfan Pathan added that the Impact Player clause will assist Dhoni in continuing to play for the four-time champions.
The 38-year-old stated that the CSK captain’s farewell knock in Chennai should be improved.
“With the impact player rule, hopefully this is not Dhoni’s retirement plans,”
Harsha Bhogle questioned Dhoni about his retirement plans and if this was his final game at Chepauk following a fantastic victory over the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1. In response, the 41-year-old stated that he is unsure as he still has 8–9 months to decide and will only affirm before the auction of the following year. The cricketer added that he has ample time to make a decision and will avoid this burden for the time being.
“I’m unsure, but I have 8 to 9 months to determine. The modest auction will occur in December, so there is no reason to endure this hassle now. I have ample time to determine. I’ll always be there for CSK, whether it’s in the guise of a player or a spectator; I’m not sure. Since I have been away from home since January and have been practicing since March, it takes a toll, so we shall see; I have ample time to decide,” Dhoni said in the post-match press conference.
Notably, under his capable stewardship, Chennai advanced to another IPL final. In Qualifier 1, they defeated Gujarat by 15 runs and will face either GT, LSG, or MI in the final, which is scheduled for May 28 in Ahmedabad. “Dhoni’s final over at Chepauk…” Irfan Pathan published a tweet.
